Drive Belt Information & Troubleshooting
About standard V belts Standard v belts are your conventional style belt that's built with polyester cords and a standard cloth wrap. These belts are great for general duty application where loads are relatively low.
About Banded V belts Banded v belts are single belts containing multiple strands joined by a heavy duty backing material. Banded belts benefit from increased stability, reduced vibration and higher horsepower transmission capabilities.
What is Kevlar®? Kevlar® is a trademarked name by DuPont for a high strength synthetic fiber. The Kevlar fibers offer high tensile strengths and great resistance to extreme temperatures.
Kevlar® vs Aramid When shopping for Kevlar belts, you may come across a term called "aramid". There is no difference, aramid is just the generic term. Kevlar® is a trademark for an aramid fiber.
V belt vs VX belt Cogged V-belts (VX) can achieve a tighter fit on pulleys due to their increased flexibility. This flexibility and their "raw" edge means minimized belt slippage to ensure consistent power transfer, even under demanding conditions. It is never recommended to interchange vx belts with standard v belts or vice-versa unless specified by the OEM.
